For Today
by Portara Consulting on

Hello.  Welcome to my blog. I am here today to live like there is no tomorrow.  I don't mean that I will use up all my living today.  I mean I will give and care mindfully, knowing that if tomorrow does not come, I will be happy I made the choices I did.

Are you holding back?  Are you pacing yourself knowing you will be here tomorrow to take another shot at living?  Rather, live fully in every choice you make.  Be here.  Notice the flower still blooming on that tree even though it is October.  Notice the way you feel when so and so speaks to you.  What are you aware of?  How do you understand your experience?

I have learned that I shut down when I am being related to in a way that takes me back to my childhood.  I become numb.  I pass a place of being aware of my intake. Similar to eating too big a meal, one that slows digestion.  I find my assimilation slows down.  My awareness becomes sluggish.  But knowing this digestive tendency I can head myself off at the pass.  I can stop myself from switching to a nine year old mode by reminding myself to stay together, not abdicate.

You need time to reflect, to understand and incorporate to ensure you are leveraging your experience fully.  Don't you want to fully experience life, your work, your family?

Listening Deeply
by Portara Consulting on

You can begin to focus on what you listen and respond to right now, as you read this and as you leave here.  The art of listening deeply is available to us all and will extend your capacity, both personally and professionally beyond what you might imagine today.  Listen to all that is around you.  Listen beneath the words to the motivation, the significance, the emotion.  Notice your first reaction, your choices, your motivation.  Respond to both the message and the meaning of the message.

A Psychologist as Executive Coach
by Portara Consulting on

Executive Coaches have become quite common in the workplace.  Why would you choose a psychologist as a coach?  Consulting Psychologists who specialize in Executive Coaching come from various backgrounds within the discipline of psychology. I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, for instance.  In most states you must be licensed in order to use the professional name of psychologist.  As a psychologist I have extensively studied and applied the systematic inquiry of the discipline to affect change.  It is difficult to change behavior as we all know, but expertise in the human mind is a good beginning.  If you are interested in advancing your wisdom, and achieving your goals, I recommend finding a partner (Executive Coach) who can ask the right questions and further your understanding of yourself, your organizations and your employees.
